Mary Sue TEST - 15 questions by Aqua999 Mary Sue TEST - 15 questions by Aqua999
DOWNLOAD FILE ^^

EDIT: Popularity of this ran out of my control. I expected maybe 10 people to use the test, but boom, and it's over 83 000 downloads already. So before you start complaining just listen:
I was pissed off by a Mary Sue tossed into my fav canon, so I created this 2-minutes-to-fix-up silly Mary Sue Test and posted it here because I thought maybe SOMEONE will appreciate. But now that you all came her and told me either that it lacks something or that it's perfect, let me admit:
This test isn't perfect. It has a lot of flaws, grammar mistakes and lacks of questions, for example about personality, natural talents, and some questions may be even neccesary, because if you don't put a said feature along with several others they don't make a Mary Sue at all. I KNOW, 'KAY?
If you enjoy - and as far as I see most of you does enjoy - I'm glad, have fun, learn something if there's anything the test can teach you, just don't take it too seriously. It doesn't work for ALL kinds of canons, stories and characters. And you know what? You can score 40 and more points here and still have an awesome character, if you're only cepable of keeping them realistic. And you can have 0 points and have as awesome character too. It's not about points, it's not about you OC's score, it about what you can do with it. I don't give a shit about math, only behavior and responces to the situations being realistic.

I have issues with fixing the main file of this deviation, but once we're on the subject, and you want to know if your OC is a Mary Sue/Gary Stu, ask yourself a few more questions. Since the test is for just a little-Mary-Suists not for extra huge Mary Sue makers, answer the following:
:bulletred: Does other characters act different in your OC's presence? I don't mean just looking away, but totally twisting their personalities?
:bulletred: Does your character have 3 or more well-developed talents that she didn't spend loooong time training?
:bulletred: Is your character having only either friends or enemies, and no people who just don't care?
:bulletred: Did your character change lifes of many on her/his own and/or came across as people's hero with ease?

Front page is a dark place full of people who complain :icongodwhyplz:

Ok so... I only have two fandom OCs, I did one of them (I got 9). But I have problems with the questions. To quickly explain the problems the fandom is DBZ...

2: The character's hair and eyes change during a transformation that the particular race can go through, but they change back.

3: The entire race, hell humans in the show have unnatural powers, and she's stronger than all humans and minor characters but not any of the MAIN characters.

6: The entire race's backstory is tragic

7: EVERYONE dies in the canon, and are easily brought back to life....especially the main character my god he dies a lot

8: Not necessarily, but I mean I use her in stories and obviously she's the main character there.

9: ......that's the whole point of the canon

11: That happens a lot in canon... I mean it's all about fighting people are gonna die

12: She's aided in saving entire planets...but she most certainly wasn't the largest part in the whole thing (Other than that she's saved her boyfriend and a child)

13: She has her tail...but so does everyone of her race

Galaxy: Ffs Harry stop talking about me

Yes, her eyes.

7. Was your character technically dead and then it managed to come back to life? +5
... No...

8. Does your OC become the main character of the canon once it's there? +6
Uh... Idk how to answer this... She's the main character of the story but she has always been that so no.

9. Can your character fight down the stronger enemies? +4
Yes, she has like guns and invisibility.

10. Does your character have it's own nemesis or somebody powerful after them? +4
Not really.

11. Did your character kill anyone? +1
Yes, very much yes.

12. Did your character saved somebody's life? +1
No, she doesn't care for saving people.

13. Does your character have unnatural features? (Like cat tail, animal ears, some claws or such) +1 point for every feature
Well she has cat ears/tail so... (and wings)

14. Is your character a mix of races? (Vampire, mutant, werewolf, fairy etc.) +1 point for every race
Yeah, she's half angel half neko (don't murder me ;_;)

5. Does two (or more) organizations fight to get your OC jon them? +3
No, only 1 does. She never joins them, but they still fight.

My Marina and her shape shift Rinabit scored a 6
since Rinabit is a different character/different person entirely, i think it doesn't count as a half breed in any way tho
it's more like a curse

SI'm going to test this out on my OC Hana Tanaka.

1. Does your OC have unnatural hair color? (Dyed hair doesn't count.) +2
No.

2.Did your characters hair/eyes change color over time on their own? +4
No.

3. Does your character have super/unnatural powers? +2
If it's a conon where many characters have powers, is your character stronger than the others?
In Hana's universe, it takes place in the Future where powers are possible to achieve, but only through steroids. Hana being a robot does have those powers because her creator Futeki modified her only to have a power of regenerating peoples health and the ability to self charge, but that has to be enabled first, so I wouldn't neccessarily say that Hana is stronger than everyone.

4.Does your character have two or more people romantically interested in them? +2
No.

5.Does your character have love interests in two or more people? +1
Yes.

6.Your character's past is:
c. Normal +0

7. Was your character technically dead, but then managed to come back to life? +5
Hana's battery drains out quickly and she's had many mishaps where she would randomly shut down, so yes but not the dead you are thinking of. (No points added)

8. Does your OC become the main character or Canon once they are there? +6
Each one of my OCs in the series gets a part in the story to introduce themselves in the story, most of my OCs are main characters in the series because its not about only one person. So uh, not really.

9. Can your character fight down the stronger enemies? +4
Yes.

10. Does your character have a nemises or somebody powerful after them? +4
If the Goverment counts. The FBI have been trying to capture Hana since she's seen as a killing machine to them, and they want to reprogram her and use her as a military weapon.

11. Did your character kill anyone? +1
Like I said, she's seen as a killing machine to people. A threat to humanity for the most part.

12. Did your character save someones life? +1
No, she takes lives! She doesn't save them!

13.Does your character have unnatural features? +1 each
I wouldn't call a built in parachute and Wifi Hotspot behind her left ear unnatural, but I guess..

14. Is your character a mix of races? +1 each
No.

15. Do two or more orginizations fight for the OC to join them? +3
No.

FINAL SCORE: 12

-Hooray she's not a Mary Sue!-

What about disadvantages, like a OC that can't run very fast, has low reaction time, or has trouble speaking to beautiful women?
What about other disadvantages like being too short, weak or can't walk at all (Wheelchair)?

Not everything has to be on the upper side of the norm imo.
Maybe add some negative points as compensation maybe?

I'm filling this out for a Steven Universe OC

1. Does your character have unnatural hair color? (dyed hair does not count) +2
I don't think so, she has extremely blonde hair (toe head)

2. Did your characters hair/eyes changed color over time on their own? +4
Nope.

3. Does your character have any super/unnatural powers? +2 If it's a conon where many character have powers, are your character's stronger then most of the others'?
Well she is a gem but also a baby...

4. Does your character have two or more people romantically interested in them? +2
I hope not XD

5. Does you character have love interests in two or more people? +1
No

6. Your character's past is: a) Tragic, treumatic +3 b) Mysterious, unknown +4 c) Regular +0
Her dad died before she was born so I guess traumatic?

7. Was your character technically dead and then it managed to come back to life? +5
Nope.

8. Does your OC become the main character of the canon once it's there? +6
Technically yes, but Steven is still the MAIN main character.

9. Can your character fight down the stronger enemies? +4
She's a baby so no.

10. Does your character have it's own nemesis or somebody powerful after them? +4
Yellow Diamond.

11. Did your character kill anyone? +1
Nope.

12. Did your character saved somebody's life? +1
She scared off a corrupted gem by crying, so I guess so.

13. Does your character have unnatural features? (Like cat tail, animal ears, some claws or such) +1 point for every feature 14. Is your character a mix of races? (Vampire, mutant, werewolf, fairy etc.) +1 point for every race
Other than the gem on her forehead, she pretty much looks like a normal human baby.

15. Does two (or more) organizations fight to get your OC join them? +3
Nope. (I don't think Jasper would get much through her head, it's kind of in one ear and out the other.)

 TOTAL: 17.

Feedback: I honestly thought my score would be a lot worse. Considering Eden (the OC) was created in a way that wouldn't coincide with her mother's existence, by combining the genetics of her two parents, and having the result planted into her mother. So yeah.
I took a different Mary Sue test and that one said Eden was a borderline Mary Sue but whatever.

I am going to be using be Wings Of Fire OC, Waves, so I will change the questions slightly.

1. Does your character have an unnatural scale color? +2
Nope! (0)

2. Does your character change colour on their own? (RainWings don't count) +4
Kinda, she naturally shifts colour slightly in the sea to match her environments, so I'll say ½ yes (2)

3. Does your character have any super/unnatural powers? +2
She has one VERY weakened power from each tribe, excluding her own, so I'll say ½ yes (3)

4. Does your character have two or more dragons romantically interested in them? (add one more point for every dragon once the number gets above two) +2
No. (3)

5. Does your character have love interests in two or more people? +1
No. (3)

6. Your character's past is:
a) Tragic, traumatic +3
b) Mysterious, unknown +4
c) Regular +0
It isn't exactly normal, but it isn't any of these. (3)

7. Was your character technically dead and then it managed to come back to life? +5
No. (3)

8. Does your OC become the main character of the canon once it's there? +6
She's the protagonist of the fanfiction I will write, which is set so there are NO CANNON CHARACTERS (apart from the Queens), so no. (3)

9. Can your character fight down stronger enemies? +4
Not if they are stronger than her. (3)

10. Does your character have its own nemesis or somebody powerful after them? +4
No. (3)

11. Did your character kill anyone? +1
No. (3)

12. Has your character saved somebody's life? +1
Technically, they saved lots of lives, so yes. (4)

13. Does your character have unnatural features? (Like cat tail, animal ears, some claws or such) +1 point for every feature
Nope! (4)

14. Is your character a hybrid? +1
She is pure SeaWing! So, no. (4)

15. Do two or more organizations fight to get your OC join them? +3
No. (4)

I scored an impressive total of... 4! XD

:bulletred: Do other characters act differently in your OC's presence? I don't mean just looking away, but totally twisting their personalities?
Nope!

:bulletred: Does your character have 3 or more well-developed talents that they didn't spend long time training?
Nope!

:bulletred: Does your character have only either friends or enemies, no people who just don't care?
She has plenty of people who don't care, some who like her, quite a few who dislike her, six close friends and a few who hate her so... no.

:bulletred: Did your character change lives of many on their own?
Not on her own, so no.

1. A part of his hair is died pink-ish. So... Nope. (0)
2. He was born with one red eye due to a disease throughout Japan, and again, he dyed his hair. (2?)
3. Not really. He's just a hacker with a knife for a weapon. (2)
4. No. (2)
5. No, just his wife. (2)
6. It's not entirely unknown, but for some parts it is. (4)
7. No. He only died in the dreamworld, not reality. (4)
8. He is not from a canon, however, he is the other main character of the own series, so I'd give it a 3. (7)
9. No. He is more of a weak character in general. Only if the person had harmed his wife in any way. (7)
10. No. (7)
11. He killed his old girlfriend in the past. (8)
12. No. His wife saved him. (8)
13. Not exactly, since he is a half-angel. Just wings. (8)
14. Half-human, half-angel. (9)
15. No. (9)

Total: 9

BONUS-
Does other characters act different in your OC's presence? I don't mean just looking away, but totally twisting their personalities?
Not really. They pretty much are aware that he's quiet and reserved.
Does your character have 3 or more well-developed talents that he didn't spend loooong time training?
No. (He's been practicing with mathematics to become an expert hacker for almost his life.)
Is your character having only either friends or enemies, and no people who just don't care?
I'm confused with the wording on this question to be honest, but... He hides from others most of the time, yet still has a decent amount of friends.(Such as the Sacred 6, and his wife.)
Did your character change lives of many on his own?
Yes. Virus was once happy with himself until his old girlfriend brutally abused him inside and outside. He regretted killing her, and now changed his identity so no one could possibly recognize him. (His hair grew longer, he starved himself and turned very pale, and he has gotten depressed much more.)

1. Does your character have unnatural hair color? (dyed hair does not count) +2
Well, she does in her spirit form, so I'm not sure if this counts. Ehh... let's give it +1
2. Did your characters hair/eyes changed color over time on their own? +4
No! She doesn't even have eyes in her spirit form, and technically even if she does
3. Does your character have any super/unnatural powers? +2
Yeah.. but technically it's canon. She exists in the spirit world so many do. She's one of the core elements, so they're better than the demi-elements, but equal to her species. I'm not going to count this.
4. Does your character have two or more people romantically interested in them? +2
no.
5. Does you character have love interests in two or more people? +1
Not really, no.
6. Your character's past is:
a) Tragic, treumatic +3
b) Mysterious, unknown +4
c) Regular +0
I wouldn't really say so.

7. Was your character technically dead and then it managed to come back to life? +5
Nope. nope. nope.

8. Does your OC become the main character of the canon once it's there? +6
She's not a fan character, but the main characters are the core elements. There are 4 but she's one of them, so yeah.

9. Can your character fight down the stronger enemies? +4
She's quite powerful, being a core element. But not without the help of her teammates combined.

10. Does your character have it's own nemesis or somebody powerful after them? +4
No.

11. Did your character kill anyone? +1
no.

12. Did your character saved somebody's life? +1
Yes. In a way, they have.

13. Does your character have unnatural features? (Like cat tail, animal ears, some claws or such) +1 point for every feature
Everything's normal for a spirit, so I can't say so.

14. Is your character a mix of races? (Vampire, mutant, werewolf, fairy etc.) +1 point for every race
Full spirit, but has a human form. So I'll take it, +1

15. Does two (or more) organizations fight to get your OC jon them? +3
No.

Total : 9
Well, I'm somewhat afraid of outerspace so probably not that extreme. But I'm glad she's not, because making a really powerful spirit oc has many risks.
BONUS ROUND

Does other characters act different in your OC's presence? I don't mean just looking away, but totally twisting their personalities?
Not at all.
Does your character have 3 or more well-developed talents that she didn't spend loooong time training?
No, but she does have flight and magic, which are inborn in spirits as they are created.
Is your character having only either friends or enemies, and no people who just don't care?
Nope. She's pretty much unknown in her human form, while in her other form she is a core spirit, but still not noticed by everyone.
Did your character change lifes of many on her/his own?
No, not really.

Great quiz!

4: No.
5: No.
6: Her mom died, so I'll say +3.
7: No, she never managed the coming back to life part...
8: Um, this is the protagonist of a book I'm writing, not a fan fiction character.
9: She tried once and got stomped. She tried again at the end of the book and kills them both. I'd say... +2?
10: No.
11: Yes. +1
12: No.
13: No.
14: No.
15: No.
16: No.

My Danganronpa OC, Misani Futashi:
1: All the students in Hope's Peak are different, because of their  Ultimate talents, but yeah, she's ordinary.
2: She only has 1, a superior baking skill she's been working on ever since she was 7.
3: Alot of people just wander by, like maybe they'll wave, but she doesn't mind it.
4: Her hair color isn't too out of the ordinary, just it's a lighter brown, unlike the dark color hair of her family.
5: She hasn't really made a HUGE impact, but she's kinda been closer to her friends and has changed their negativity to being more positive and change the way they look at things.
6: Her height and body are proportionate for her short height of 4'11
7: She's not SUPER smart or SUPER strong, but gets good grades and can do gym class and such
8: She's got brown eyes and wears a thicker sweater with leggings and sneakers.
9: In the end, I never made her commit murder or point out HUGE points in the class trial like Makoto Naegi does. I dunno if it's bad that I made her lie through the whole thing. ( Minus 1?)

My Hetalia OC Laos.

1. No. He has black hair.

2. No.

3. The only thing supernatural about him is that he has ghosts flying around him, which is common in Laos, so no.

4. No. I doubt that parents count.

5. The only love he has is parental love.

6. Yes, his past is traumatic for several reasons: WW2, when Japan and Thailand invaded Laos, Vietnam using Laos as a puppet only 5 years later after independence, and due to the bombing of Laos during the Vietnam War. +3

7. No, but he almost died.

8. No.

9. Does it look like a child can beat up a grown man? No.

10. No. He's afraid of a lot of people, though.

11. No.

12. No. More like someone saved his life.

13. Physical traumatization (back is broken, amputated legs), mental retardation (idiocy due to the fact that Laos has the lowest average IQ in Southeast Asia), and mental traumatization. No.

14. No. He's a nation.

15. No.

So only 3 points. I'd rather travel to the moon and back than create a Mary Sue.

I am not sure. Could please somebody read thought my story and find out? I totally love writing it even though I have much to do. And I surely don't want to write a cliche Mary Sue story.

18 points, I figured it'd be a tad higher. Oh well. Wait, more questions!

16. If so, it's usually out of fear.
17. At her level, if she wants a well developed talent, she can just demand it and it shall be so.
18. No, she has a mix of each just like anyone else.
19. I wouldn't say many, but there are a few people.

Okay, lemme see where my Character Abraxas lands.

1. White hair with around 30, having them from birth? Counts.
    2

2. His eye doesn't change over time, only when he switches between human and demonic form.
    2

3. For human standards: no doubt his magic and being undead. For inhuman standards: He does blast off the devil with one laser if he wants to...
    4

4. He is quite charismatic, but nope. No romantic feelings towards him.
    4

5. He isn't interested in romance.
    4

6. He died though hanging, burning, dismemberment and having his organs severed from his body. Self-explanatory.
    7

7. He didn't come back on his own, free will. He did kill the necromancer afterwards. Let's say 3 outta 5.
    10

8. Not the protagonist, if that's the point. Rather the villain. Still counts.
    16

9. Not in a fair battle... but he doesn't play fair.
    20

10. The hero, duh.
    24

11. Bad guy/Zombie-like demon... self-explanatory.
    25

12. Nah.
    25

13. Human: Nope. Demon: Rotten flesh, rotten wings, constantly bleeding missing eye... Not for demon standards.
    25

14. Demon with a human body... No.
    25

15. Only countless to see him dead....
    25

What is the result?

I'm gonna do this for Alex and Freya from my DeviantArt stories.

Alex first.

1. Does your character have unnatural hair color? (dyed hair does not count) +2

He has black hair, so no. No points.

2. Did your characters hair/eyes changed color over time on their own? +4

No, and it'll never happen. Period.

3. Does your character have any super/unnatural powers? +2 If it's a conon where many character have powers, are your character's stronger then most of the others'?

He knows a variety of martial arts and is a crack shot with his Colt .45, and has knowledge of general anatomy, medicine, and survival skills. All those together sound incredibly OP, but they're not super or unnatural.

4. Does your character have two or more people romantically interested in them? +2

So far, aside from his family, who we've only hear over the phone, the only other characters he knows are Freya and an unnamed giant who got killed. That's less than two characters to be romantically interested in him, assuming Freya even is (which is probably unlikely, for reasons obvious to my (currently very few) readers).

5. Does you character have love interests in two or more people? +1

There have been hints with Freya, but for the aforementioned obvious reasons, it looks unlikely anything will come of it so far.

6. Your character's past is: a) Tragic, treumatic +3 b) Mysterious, unknown +4 c) Regular +0

Not his deep past, but recent... he's given up on hope of life outside of his parent's ranch, been trained and trained himself to be a soldier in defense of said ranch in preparation of doomsday, and I haven't written this yet, but expects that life to kill him before he reaches 30. I'd call that option A. 3 points.

7. Was your character technically dead and then it managed to come back to life? +5

See my answer for the hair/eye color one.

8. Does your OC become the main character of the canon once it's there? +6

Yes, because he IS the main character of the story. It's told from his first person perspective and everything. Without him, there is no main character. 9 points.

9. Can your character fight down the stronger enemies? +4

Remember that unnamed giant that got killed? Yeah, that was him. 13 points.

10. Does your character have it's own nemesis or somebody powerful after them? +4

Same answer as my hair/eye color and rise from dead answers.

11. Did your character kill anyone? +1

Again, remember the giant. 14 points.

12. Did your character saved somebody's life? +1

That giant he killed? He was about to rape Freya. I'd say that counts. 15 points.

13. Does your character have unnatural features? (Like cat tail, animal ears, some claws or such) +1 point for every feature

Do I even need to say it?

14. Is your character a mix of races? (Vampire, mutant, werewolf, fairy etc.) +1 point for every race

...

15. Does two (or more) organizations fight to get your OC jon them? +3

...

Final score: 15 points.

11-20 Your OC is an interesting character with no overdose

Batman and Deathstroke levels of badassery isn't overdose? OK then. Now for Freya.

1. Does your character have unnatural hair color? (dyed hair does not count) +2

She has orange hair, basically ginger, so no.

2. Did your characters hair/eyes changed color over time on their own? +4

Same answer as Alex. You know what? I'm just gonna say "potato" whenever I give this answer.

3. Does your character have any super/unnatural powers? +2 If it's a conon where many character have powers, are your character's stronger then most of the others'?

Depends. Among other giants, her only special power would be being female. If she's among humans... she's a freakin' 100 foot tall giantess. Um... I'm gonna go with no.

4. Does your character have two or more people romantically interested in them? +2

Possibly Alex, but it's unlikely anything will ever come of it (like I said earlier). There's also any male giant she may come across, but because giantesses are so rare in that universe, it's less romance, more a release of libido than anything else.

5. Does you character have love interests in two or more people? +1

She's very friendly, but has never shown any sort of romantic interest in anyone.

6. Your character's past is: a) Tragic, treumatic +3 b) Mysterious, unknown +4 c) Regular +0

She left behind her home and father in Scotland at his [her father's] request, seeking out isolation from other giants to avoid being used as a piece of meat. I'd call that option A. 3 points.

7. Was your character technically dead and then it managed to come back to life? +5

May or may not happen in the future, but so far, not yet.

8. Does your OC become the main character of the canon once it's there? +6

She does become a co-MC along with Alex whenever he's with her, but because the story's told from his first person perspective, I'd say no because when it's not the both of them, it's him. But I do think of her as the more interesting character.

9. Can your character fight down the stronger enemies? +4

What the hell is stronger than a 100 foot tall giantess?

10. Does your character have it's own nemesis or somebody powerful after them? +4

Not exactly, but she does have to avoid most if not all male giants. Easier than you think, as giants as a species are rare, not just females. Ladies are just even more rare.

11. Did your character kill anyone? +1

She did assist in that aforementioned giant. 4 points.

12. Did your character saved somebody's life? +1

For as well as Alex was doing in that fight, there's no doubt he would've been killed had Freya not intervened. 5 points.

13. Does your character have unnatural features? (Like cat tail, animal ears, some claws or such) +1 point for every feature

Yeah, I just said she's gin-- *shot* Oh, come on! Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear gets to make that joke! But seriously, no.

14. Is your character a mix of races? (Vampire, mutant, werewolf, fairy etc.) +1 point for every race

She's a giantess, but not a mix of giantess and anything else.

15. Does two (or more) organizations fight to get your OC jon them? +3

Potato.

Final score: 5 points.

0-10 You'd rather treavel to the moon and back again than create a Mary Sue on purpose

I honestly expected higher. For her and him. *notices other questions* Maybe this'll fix that.

Does other characters act different in your OC's presence? I don't mean just looking away, but totally twisting their personalities?

Not really, not that many other characters to act different. This applies to both.

Does your character have 3 or more well-developed talents that she didn't spend loooong time training?

Freya, no. Alex, since we're talking multiple survival skills, martial arts, and firearm handling, I wouldn't really call less than five years a loooong time.

Is your character having only either friends or enemies, and no people who just don't care?

Neither of them really know a lot of people. Freya, it's only Alex and her father, so no. Alex, there's just Freya and his family. There are the others in his martial arts classes I'd imagine, but since we don't really spend any time there with him, I don't think they'd count. So no for him as well.

Did your character change lifes of many on her/his own?

No for both.

So Aqua, how do those last 4 questions affect score?

Okay, let me apply this to Magnus, the principal character in my Transformers: Genesis novels…

1. Does your character have unnatural hair color? (dyed hair does not count) +2

Cybertronians having hair would be unusual … so, no. No points.

2. Did your characters hair/eyes changed color over time on their own? +4

Magnus’ eyes are “command grade” optics as with all his series, red, a color later associated with Decepticons. In the story, when he utilized the Star of Cybertron (see special powers) they turn green … but this is only transitory. No points.

3. Does your character have any super/unnatural powers? +2

If it's a canon where many character have powers, are your character's stronger then most of the others'?

He is in possession of the Star of Cybertron, though he is unaware of it for much of the story. As it’s a bot-meets-Cybertron story, he’s a just-boot, being unaware is not a big deal. But having the SoC is a big deal … it had to be because the first novels are really about ancient Cybertron and without the abilities it gives, and what goes with just having it, there could not be the same bot-meets-Cybertron story.

It may not make him “stronger”, but, yeah, +2 points … and that’s not much considering….

4. Does your character have two or more people romantically interested in them? +2

“Romance” and “clueless” and Magnus … well, Magnus at one point asks his doctor, who is a femme, why some are femmes and some are mechs. He is at that point under the delusion that femmes have a mind control power because of something that a brother of his said that he didn’t understand at all…

The boy gets into some comedic situations because he is so clueless … so he really deserved the 2 points.

5. Does you character have love interests in two or more people? +1

He has developed a crush on his femme doctor and by the end of the second book seems like he might be falling for an alien femme called From Me … so 1 point.

6. Your character's past is:

a) Tragic, treumatic +3

b) Mysterious, unknown +4

c) Regular +0

I’ll take “mysterious” for 4 points … but it was for a good cause.

7. Was your character technically dead and then it managed to come back to life? +5

No.

8. Does your OC become the main character of the canon once it's there? +6

My idea of telling these stories is that they exist within the empty spaces of the cartoon canon, but Magnus’ storyline is to eventually lead to where the G1 cartoon started, and as he’s obviously not in the G1 cartoon… no points.

9. Can your character fight down the stronger enemies? +4

He spends a lot of time running in combat when faced with overwhelming odds. No points.

10. Does your character have it's own nemesis or somebody powerful after them? +4

Only the jokes that will follow him for years because of how he reacts to a certain femme and also something he says in a hall. No points.

11. Did your character kill anyone? +1

Yes. you don’t specify if they have to be important or if there’s no good excuse so 1 point.

12. Did your character saved somebody's life? +1

Yeah … 1 point

13. Does your character have unnatural features? (Like cat tail, animal ears, some claws or such) +1 point for every feature

At one point he ponders some at a chassis modification shop, but only gets relatively small decorative horns, which are not unusual among Cybertronians. No points.

14. Is your character a mix of races? (Vampire, mutant, werewolf, fairy etc.) +1 point for every race

No. No points.

15. Does two (or more) organizations fight to get your OC jon them? +3

No. no points.

TOTAL: 11 points as of the two novels, Genesis and Forgotten Wars

Probably deserves a few more points for being the brunt of gender related comedy on a world where they don’t really know why gender exists….

Nice test. Of course it's hard to create an absolute extensive test, but those questions are already more than enough to figure out the most annoying traits of a Mary Sue character.
I absolutely want to avoid ever creating one. I like my OCs to be balanced. Not only that, but I never make my OCs main characters, they're always only supportive characters, if they ever get some spotlight, it'd be for a very short time.

I'll go for it with my two fav OCs, I'll have them as :bulletgreen: and :bulletblue: for identification of each one.
EDIT: adding a third one, :bulletyellow:.

1. Does your character have unnatural hair color? (dyed hair does not count) + 2
So, the thing is, the canon I'm writing for has all characters with unnatural hair and eye colors, so that's a common trait in the canon and it's nothing special, then I guess whether they do have different hair color or not wouldn't matter, so this wouldn't count.
:bulletgreen: Yes, but everyone in the canon does.
:bulletblue: Same thing.
:bulletyellow: Well, he'd probably be the non ordinary thing in that universe. But the thing is, there is a whole canon faction of characters that look exactly like him, so, no.

2. Did your character's hair/eyes change color over time on their own? +4
:bulletgreen: I'd not say on their own. This OC has a curse and during the time he's cursed he has a certain hair/eye/skin color. In my story he'll be rid of the curse and go back to normal and will forever remain normal, so... No.
:bulletblue: No. They'll always be the same color.
:bulletyellow: No.

3. Does your character have any super/unnatural powers? +2 If it's a canon where many character have powers, are your character's stronger then most of the others'?
:bulletgreen: Not naturally. He got his powers because of a certain artifact that got him cursed. In fact, he's aiming to get rid of those powers, lmao. But since he has powers while cursed, I'll add the points.
:bulletblue: He doesn't have powers, but he is a very skilled fighter, supposed to be the master of the masters... And yet he'll be a mere supporting character, lol. Nobody will see him fight. XD I guess I should add points on this one, though.
:bulletyellow: No.

4. Does your character have two or more people romantically interested in them? +2
:bulletgreen: No, only one person.
:bulletblue: Same thing.
:bulletyellow: No romance for this guy.

5. Does you character have love interests in two or more people? +1
:bulletgreen: No, he's only interested in the very person who is also interested in him.
:bulletblue: Pretty much the same thing, but he might have a slight platonic affection towards a canon character because she reminds him of this person he likes. Yet, this canon character already kind of has a love interest of her own and he won't dare get between them. So, no.
:bulletyellow: No love interest.

6. Your character's past is: a) Tragic, traumatic +3 b) Mysterious, unknown +4 c) Regular +0
:bulletgreen: Hm... More like traumatic, I guess. I mean, it's not regular, nor mysterious. But it's nothing really shocking. The character got cursed when trying to save his homeland, that's all. The curse made him almost immortal in the "how long can you live" aspect, and after watching his loved ones die so many times he wants to get rid of it and die normally like everyone else.
:bulletblue: This one is tragic. To be exact, this character is dead and appears in the form of a spirit the whole time, with exception of flashbacks.
:bulletyellow: His past would most likely be regular for someone of his faction. However, there'll be quite a nice change, which won't be part of his past, so... Regular.

7. Was your character technically dead and then it managed to come back to life? +5
:bulletgreen: No, he's alive.
:bulletblue: No, he died and can be summoned as a spirit for consultation and guidance, that's all.
:bulletyellow: No.

8. Does your OC become the main character of the canon once it's there? +6
:bulletgreen: No, he'll only appear in, like, 3 occasions in the whole story.
:bulletblue: While he will travel with the main group for a little while (since they're helping him get to the spiritual world) he's not a main character. Only supportive.
:bulletyellow: He's a recurrent character, only will appear in few occasions.

9. Can your character fight down the stronger enemies? +4
:bulletgreen: While cursed he probably could hold some enemies off, but not the strongest enemies. Without the curse he's pretty much an ordinary fighter.
:bulletblue: With his skills he could last a while, but since he's only a fighter and doesn't have any magic, he'd not be able to beat them.
:bulletyellow: He is very cunning, he might outsmart some, but not fight them down. He's not that strong.

10. Does your character have it's own nemesis or somebody powerful after them? +4
:bulletgreen: No.
:bulletblue: Not really. He killed a powerful enemy once, but because some events happened that it was him finishing them off. Then he died after a while. Never had a personal enemy.
:bulletyellow: Not a nemesis. The thing is, this character is from a faction that is on the villains' side, however, he and some others will want to get out of there, and of course the villains will want them dead for betraying them. So, no.

11. Did your character kill anyone? +1
:bulletgreen: No.
:bulletblue: Only once and immensely regretted it, to the point he swore never to fight again.
:bulletyellow: Probably yes.

12. Did your character save somebody's life? +1
:bulletgreen: Technically, yes, since he managed to make his homeland win a war.
:bulletblue: Yes, since he killed an enemy that was on a killing spree.
:bulletyellow: After the big change in his life he will.

13. Does your character have unnatural features? (Like cat tail, animal ears, some claws or such) +1 point for every feature
:bulletgreen: Not really, he looks like an ordinary human, unless his curse counts.
:bulletblue: He looks like an ordinary human as well, though he is a ghost since he's dead.
:bulletyellow: Well, he is part of a faction that already exists in the canon. So the design isn't even mine. They look like a mix of ninjas and mummies, with glowing eyes. Would that even count when it's from the canon itself?

14. Is your character a mix of races? (Vampire, mutant, werewolf, fairy etc.) +1 point for every race
:bulletgreen: No. He's fully human.
:bulletblue: Human too.
:bulletyellow: He's not a mix of races. He'd be a single race, if that race isn't some kind of mutated human. The canon never explained what the heck are they. But I guess he might get a point for not being an ordinary human being.

15. Does two (or more) organizations fight to get your OC jon them? +3
:bulletgreen: No. He only allied himself with the good guys because he sympathized with their cause.
:bulletblue: Same thing.
:bulletyellow: No. He will leave the dark side and join the good side. But nobody is requesting him to join.

Now let's see the total.
:bulletgreen: 6 (or 7 if question 13 counts)
:bulletblue: 7 (or 8 if question 13 counts)
:bulletyellow: 3 (LOL!)

Therefore, the result is:
0-10 You'd rather travel to the moon and back again than create a Mary Sue on purpose.

Cool, I'm happy with that. XD

A cartoon called Storm Hawks.

It takes place in a world made of very high mountains, where people have to travel around using airships and flying motorcycles. :P
The humans have all kinds of hair/eye color, but the skin color is normal. There are other humanoid races too, like fish-people (not mermaids), coyote-people, lizard-people, rhino-people, giants, those ninja/mummies things, etc.

In the end of the cartoon the main characters and the main villain travel to another... "Dimension", because the heroes are chasing after the bad guy (well, girl).

My story takes place right after they get to this new unexplored place (which by the canon itself is supposed to be an advanced place with high tech stuff and mystical creatures). My idea was to write a possible story that could have happened there, because the world had so much potential, I felt just sad it was abandoned like that.

I do have my own original ideas for universes and plots, though.
They'll be comics and not written pieces. And none of the characters in those are abnormal, unless it's common in the universe I make (which is usually a rare case). I prefer balanced characters. Not even enemies should be overpowered. I prefer enemies with wits than power. It's much more interesting to go for a battle of outsmarting than of your usual Superman vs some OP enemy battle.

1. Does your character have unnatural hair color? (dyed hair does not count) +2
 No. Her hair is black.

2. Did your characters hair/eyes changed color over time on their own? +4
Her eyes are purple, but they don't change. So no.

She's has pretty strong supernatural powers. Yes.

4. Does your character have two or more people romantically interested in them? +2
 No.

7. Was your character technically dead and then it managed to come back to life? +5
 No.

8. Does your OC become the main character of the canon once it's there? +6
No. She's ONE of the main character of my GAoBaM AT. But still no.

9. Can your character fight down the stronger enemies? +4
Yes. No one should make her mad, or they will have a bad day.

10. Does your character have it's own nemesis or somebody powerful after them? +4
Yes. She has her own rivals and enemies.

11. Did your character kill anyone? +1
 No. Not yet.

12. Did your character saved somebody's life? +1
 Yes. She has.

13. Does your character have unnatural features? (Like cat tail, animal ears, some claws or such) +1 point for every feature
Yes. Only purple eyes. Only in human form

14. Is your character a mix of races? (Vampire, mutant, werewolf, fairy etc.) +1 point for every race
Her natural species is a Merdrake, but she can shape shift into a human. Yes

15. Does two (or more) organizations fight to get your OC join them? +3
 No.

"There is no such thing as bad characters. Only bad writers".

All these questions are irrelevant because traits are not the signs of a Mary Sue.
They are possible signs for bad writing though... And that's the major difference.

What really defines a Mary Sue is not what they are but why they are. As in, is this character here for the story or to stroke the ego of the writer?

Any story where the writer hijacks someone else's story or even their own for their own means is just writing fanfiction at that point.

And advice like this is just a knee jerk response to badly written stories write written badly.
Which is also detrimental to novice or even good writers from taking chances and improving their craft through mistakes.

I actually have my own piece about writing characters which is probably better advice since I can't really write those details here.

I've decided to respond to as many of these as possible because... it seems no one actually understands the difference between bad writing and every day creativity, even if the ideas are recycled.

I just hope most of your viewers take time to read these responses, it's probably the best advice they'll get.

So, I'll agree with this as by taking this test only for fun (I like my characters as they are because I've written great background for them that makes them fit) I noticed many things there wouldn't apply/count for them.

Though there's one thing it's more than obvious that a Mary Sue character would be, as in, in general: an absolutely overpowered (which doesn't have to be raw power, it could be any trait that's way too spectacular and goes beyond anything in the whole universe you're creating) character that draws too much attention (whether it's because they have too many love interests or villains and heroes alike begging them to join their side doesn't really matter).
The Mary Sue steals the spotlight of other characters in a ridiculous way. Avoiding that is fairly easy, it just needs some common sense of what's plain silly and what's a nicely written character.

Thats actually a really good point! I've read a lot of things with characters that some people would thnk of as "mary sues" (tragic backstory, crazy powers, stuff like that) but because the characters were still well written and actually FIT in the story, it still worked! spending time trying to figure out if my characters are mary sues instead of just writing anyways and progressing by actually working is probably the worst possible thing for my writing.
